PRI’s the World, by Marco Werman (Sept. 19, 2012) — When US Ambassador Christopher Stevens died last week in Libya, one detail about his life struck us. He was an ambassador who had served in the Peace Corps.
There are not many ambassadors who have. And that made a difference in the kind of ambassador Stevens was.
The World’s Marco Werman, who also served in the Peace Corps, tracked down Amie Bishop, one of the other volunteers Chris Stevens served with.
Stevens was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco from 1983-85. He and Bishop both taught English as a second language in neighboring villages in the Atlas mountains.
